About

IanI am a parent/carer passionate about improving Care & Services for disabled people especially those with learning disabilities, Autism or Challenging behaviour.

My adult son has a severe learning disability, autism, epilepsy and severe and challenging behaviour. My wife has a moderate learning disability, epilepsy and now dementia so I have amassed much personal experience of disability issues. I have also been a proud special school Governor for the last 15 years and this role has also helped to provide perspective working within our special community.

Now in retirement I spend quite a lot of time advocating on disability issues through attendance at County and local disability groups and with my local hospital special needs group. Recently I have joined by local GP patient group and attend PPG meetings on their behalf. I am working with Parent Voice and the Parent and Carer network to promote disability issues and a special interest is with transition from school to adulthood which is an area that failed us as a family.

Earlier this month I became a local champion for the Challenging Behaviour Foundation having completed my training. I am looking forward to promoting them at every opportunity as they are such a wonderful charity.
